Moisturizers 101

Nu-derm Hydrate MoisturizerWe all want soft and beautiful skin, but sometimes dryness can get in the way. With so many moisturizers to choose from, how do you pick the right one?

If you’re not experiencing any dryness, then you really don’t need to moisturize. But if you are like most of us, a little moisturization can do a lot of good. Moisturizers prevent and treat dry skin by holding water in the outermost layer of your skin. It also acts as a barrier for protection. Make sure the moisturizer you pick is right for your skin type, will bring out the best in your skin, and offers several hours of moisture protection—hint, hint… think Obagi Hydrate.

Get the most out of your facial moisturizer.
Moisturizers work by helping the skin hold on to its own moisture by sealing it in.¹ To get the most from your moisturizer, apply it when your skin is still moist. Typically that means right after you shower or bathe in the morning and after you wash up before you go to sleep.

Smoothies Great for your Skin

antioxidant smoothies good for your skinSmoothies offer great versatility and a healthy treat any time of the day even in the winter time. You can easily use fruits and vegetables that are available in the grocery store. A single glass can deliver antioxidants, protein, fiber, vitamins, and much more. This refreshing smoothie is packed with nutrition that’s good for your skin, yet easy to make!

Prep: 5 minutes
Yield: 4 servings
Level: Easy!
Calories: 191 per serving

  • 1.5 cups of Greek or fat-free natural plain yogurt
  • 1 pint of blueberries
  • 2 ripe bananas
  • ½  cup of “no pulp” 100% natural orange juice
  • ½ lemon, squeezed (for tartness, if desired)

Place all ingredients in a blender. Liquefy and then add more orange juice if the consistency is too thick for you. Enjoy!

A smart start with lasting benefits
Antioxidants, which are found in many fruits, have been shown to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and create a more youthful-looking complexion.1 Antioxidants can help fight free radicals—tiny, unstable molecules that have been shown to cause damage at the cellular level—and when applied topically, antioxidants can help reduce the signs of skin damage caused by the sun and other environmental stressors. Did you know that blueberries rank third as a natural source of antioxidants after prunes and raisins?2 You may notice an energy boost from such a nutritious start to your day and find yourself exercising more! In this recipe, yogurt provides protein, calcium, and good bacteria to aid digestion. Bananas are packed with potassium and slow-release sugar to sustain you throughout the day. Blueberries are also full of fiber, so you may notice that you feel full sooner, and you’ll eat less. And finally, orange juice is a popular source of Vitamin C. Add more or less OJ, depending on how thick you want your smoothie. Here’s to Obagi Skin Health!

Antioxidants in a bottle
We love this smoothie recipe as a way to fortify ourselves from the inside. For an extra boost of antioxidants, you can turn to Obagi Professional-C Serums. Professional-C Serums offer the antioxidant Vitamin C in a rich, concentrated formula, and are available in four different strengths for different skin types and needs.

Obagi Professional-C Serums and other Obagi Products including Obagi Nu-Derm Clear are still on sale for 15% off this month at Healthy Glow Skin

What’s New this Year for You?

The new year is right around the corner━and you know what that means! It’s that time of year again when we reflect on the past 12 months and look forward to a fresh start and (gulp) set new resolutions. This year, consider resolving to put your skin first! After all, just because another year will pass, it doesn’t mean that your skin has to show it.Obagi Products

Out with the old, in with the new. There’s never been a better time to start a new skin care regimen. If you have a medicine cabinet full of skin care products you’ve tried in the past without much success, start fresh. It’s time to invest in a quality skin care regimen such as the Obagi Nu-Derm® System, a complete system that is clinically proven to transform skin. Nu-Derm includes all of the essential components needed to help reveal beautiful, radiant skin all year long.

The dawn of a new day. Sun protection is an important concern at any time of the year, rain or shine. But this year, finally make it a habit to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day. A major cause of premature skin aging is the sun, and overexposure to the sun’s damaging rays is known to cause fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots, and uneven skin tone.

The year of me! In 2013, take some time to focus on yourself. This may sound like a no-brainer, but it may actually be the hardest resolution for some. After all, with busy work schedules, kids, and family, who has “me” time anymore? But this year, make it a point to take a few extra minutes each day to care for yourself━whether it’s getting more sleep, drinking more water, or simply just relaxing. Not only will you feel better, but the benefits will show up on your skin, too. Besides, more sleep? Who can say no to that?

Losing weight and exercising more make it on the top 10 resolutions list every year for many people, but let’s make 2013 the year for beautiful, healthy-looking skin. Cheers to a new year and a new you! What is your New Year’s skin care resolution?

New to Obagi Skin Care Products – Obagi Hydrate

Nu-derm HydrateIn November, Obagi announced the arrival of their new facial moisturizer, Obagi Hydrate.

Hydrate isn’t just an ordinary lotion. It is formulated to provide long-lasting hydration for all-day moisture protection. It contains Hydromanil, a technologically advanced ingredient, which retains water and gradually delivers moisture to the skin. So not only does it provide immediate moisturization, it also continues to hold water in the layers of your skin over time. In fact, as demonstrated in a moisturization study, Hydrate provides 8-hour moisture protection!1,2

This gentle, hypoallergenic formula also contains other natural ingredients such as shea butter, mango butter, and avocado to help combat skin dryness without clogging your pores. Designed for all skin types, Hydrate is dermatologist-tested to be non-irritating and non-sensitizing, so you can ensure that it’s been clinically proven to be safe.2

As part of your regular skin care regimen, apply Hydrate in the morning and evening to help protect your skin. Hydrate is also designed to work optimally with the Obagi Nu-derm System®—especially if you are experiencing dry, flaky skin as your skin undergoes transformation, Hydrate will help provide relief and comfort.

For more information about Hydrate and how to get your hands (or face) on our newest product, talk to your skin care physician.

Age Gracefully – Combat the Signs of Aging

Aging is a natural process that, like it or not, will occur in all of us. Fortunately, by understanding how your skin ages and the long-term effects of exposure to the elements, you’ll be armed with the ammunition needed to combat dry, wrinkled skin and dark spots well beyond your sixties.

Sonja Cook Maxwell, a 73-year-old former flight attendant, is one of those people who decided it was time to stand up to the relentless aging process.

From an early age, the importance of proper skin care was instilled in Sonja. As a flight attendant during the ’60s, she was constantly bombarded with the overwhelming demand to look her best, day in and day out. “During the first 20 years of my career, looks were still very important and regimented. I [was] always trying to keep my appearance up to par,” Sonja explains.

Sleep Your Way to More Glowing Skin

Ever wonder how Sleeping Beauty had such beautiful, glowing skin? Turns out she knew the beauty secret of a good night’s rest! In fact, during the hours you’re sleeping, your body is hard at work renewing and repairing your skin cells.1 A simple bedtime skin care routine can help boost these processes so you can go to sleep dreaming of beautiful, healthy-looking skin.

Enjoy your beauty sleep
They don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing—catching some much-needed Zs every night is one of the easiest and best ways to achieve better-looking skin. While you may be out cold, your body is working the night shift repairing skin cells.1 So try to give yourself a restful 8 hours of sleep every night. Not only will this help your skin, but you’ll also feel better in the morning, refreshed, and ready to start the day.

Wash the day away
After a long, busy day, it may be tempting to just crawl into bed and go to sleep without washing your face. But the fact is, your skin has been exposed to a day’s worth of makeup, excess oil, pollution, and other environmental elements, which can lead to breakouts and other signs of skin damage. Washing and exfoliating will remove everyday impurities and open up your pores. If you’re too tired to wash your face before you retire, perform your skin care routine at 7 or 8 pm. Earlier is better than never! Continue reading
